The stillbeautymovement theatre company is an independent theater group whose roots sprouted in the early fall of 1999 as a one man performance art/spoken word act backed by various local bands and musical amalgamations. The main venue for these experimental jaunts was the pub formerly known as the Blarney Stone (currently Conan's Pub). These weekly performances and exercises in artistic expression allowed stillbeautymovement to expand into larger casts and harness its potential as a respectable theater group while also establishing its own small niche in Portland's rock scene.

Performing since 1999 at such venues as the Satyricon, the Jasmine Tree's Tiki Lounge, the Medicine Hat Gallery, the Snake and Weasel, the Ash Street Saloon, the Fez Ballroom, the Rainbow in Seattle, and the streets of our fair Portland, the stillbeautymovement theatre company developed a loving audience and became fittingly referred to as, "children's theater for adults in bars." Although this title may seem diminutive, it is in fact the very essence of stillbeautymovement. The challenge of engaging drunken rock and roll fans in eccentric theater became the inspiration for our mythical cartoon theater. With its excessive costuming, audience participation, overboard social caricatures, splashes of simple beauty, and raw humor, the stillbeautymovement theatre company has matured into a practiced group of performers prepared to captivate the most vile of hecklers. The latest piece, "The Birth of the Stick Figure Battery Baby," was written over an eighteen month period and performed in sections during its conception at various bars and clubs around Portland. The final conglomerative opus was performed for five weekends at the Back Door Theater in Portland, OR and was wonderously recieved. Four of the performances were benefits, and we were able to raise nearly $450 for Street Roots Newpaper, the National Kidney Foundation, and the Julianna Valentine McCourt Children's Education Fund. A new play is currently in the works and should reveal itself in the Portland area sometime. In the meantime, look out for sneak attacks of stillbeautymovement.
